Kirk Family in Victoria Australia

Post by isk » Sun Oct 09, 2022 8:56 pm

Good evening. I am looking for help with a marriage of Duncan Kirk and a Susan Kirk in 1884 in Victoria, Australia. Their eldest child, Duncan Charles Kirk was born in 1884 at Korong Vale. What I would like to know are the names of the parents of Duncan & Susan. I am concerned that their maybe a very close connection between them. I would be pleased with any information. Thank you for any help. isk

Hello Isk,

Victoria used the same registration system as Scotland, so the parents of the bride and groom should normally appear on the marriage certificate. The parent’s names aren’t shown in the marriage index. http://www.jaunay.com/bdm.html

The certificate can be downloaded for a fee of AUD$20.00 as shown here. https://my.rio.bdm.vic.gov.au/efamily-h ... yName=KIRK

If the marriage was close enough in relationship to be deemed illegal I doubt they would have supplied information that would make that obvious. It seems first cousins could marry under British Common Law.

Hope that helps,
Alan

If this is him NSW BMD has a 1926 death at Grenfell, parents John and Agnes.

And if this is Susan there’s a 1909 death at Goulburn with parents Frederick and Jessie
