Scottish Cemetery of Kolkata

Post by WilmaM » Fri Nov 07, 2008 9:51 am

There was an article on the BBC News website yesterday about the Scottish Cemetery of Kolkata in Calcutta.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/7710435.stm

A team from the Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) and a cemetery expert from Highland Council are going out to survey the graveyard and plan to restore it nd the gravestones in it.
The team leave for India on 8 November and photography and survey information from the visit will be made available to the public online at www.rcahms.gov.uk.
Could be a valuable excercise if they put the names of those buried on-line.

Great news, Wilma!
As you say, it would be very helpful if they put the names online. I have a distant relative or two who might be there...
All the best,
Sarah

Wow. Fingers crossed that they buried my great great grandfather who died there in 1856 in that graveyard and did not just pitch him over the side of the ship!!
