fox lane St john's Leith south in 1841.....

can anyone please tell me what this area would be called now a day's???
i've had a look on street map but can't locate it thankyou regards maggie

names of intrest Mcnaught/Mcnaughton/Mcnaughtan/Stewart/Bryce/Chalmers
Yuill/Oliver/Mckenzie/Paterson/Buchannan/Galbraith/Wardrop

Hi Maggie,

Fox Lane can be found on the Ordnance Survey map of 1853 at http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map/to ... _1_ne.html
Select sheet 17 (just below the centre of the index map).
Zoom in on the area immediately below the centre of the top edge of that map. You should find Fox Lane.

By the time of the 1894 map, it had been renamed Fox Street. You can find Fox Street on the current map at www.streetmap.co.uk by searching for Elbe Street (Fox Street seems to be missing from their index). It looks like only the east section of Fox Street remains.

thank you ever so much for taking the trouble to send me the maps it is appreciated i located my Chalmers family there in 1841 &51 so just wanted to see if possible what area it was in .now all i need to solve is the mysteries behind the 3 :? maiden surnames for my "Lizzies" mother was.
