Addresses in Govan and Clydebank.....

Post by fortunata » Fri Sep 16, 2005 10:50 pm

Is anyone able to tell me anything about any of these places. I expect they are long gone, redevelopment being what it is, but if anyone has information i would be very pleased to hear from you.
1) Queen Street, Govan - appears on the birth certificate of my gtgt grandmother as her place of birth.

2) Victoria Road, Clydebank - given as the residence of my gtgt grandfather at the time of his marriage to my gtgtgrandmother(of course!)

3) Clydebank Terrace, Clydebank - given as the residence of my gtgt grandmother at the time of her marriage etc.
I think they married at St James Parish Church at (cant read that!) in Clydebank. I have taken this information from their original marriage certificate, which was given to me many years ago by my great aunt(one of their daughters.)
Thank you :)

Hi Fortunata,

Queen St, Govan became a southern part of Neptune St.
If you go to - http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map/to ... plans.html

select Glasgow [1892-4]
click on middle box on left,
click on VI.9.18 - Queen St is up at the top right corner, and continues on,
VI.9.13 at the bottom right corner, and to see the northern part,
VI.9.14 - at middle of the left hand side.
It stops at Windsor St - nowadays Vicarfield St.
Victoria St is the northern part of Neptune St.

The Glasgow Story mentions Queen St, Govan

Clydebank Terrace - click picture in the housing section.
St James' Church - picture in the Education & Religion section.

Not too sure of a Victoria Road, but there was a Victoria Street in Clydebank.
From Kilbowie Rd; Livingstone St used to run east from it,
and Victoria St ran north/south across Livingstone St - about 200yds from Kilbowie Rd.
(demolished late 1970s - new Clydebank Shopping Centre built on the land)
