Hello:)
I am trying to read an RCE that has an ancestor drowning in a river at farm of Elliothead. The particular river doesn't appear to be mentioned. What rivers run through there?

Hello Dennis
Judging from my 1932 gazetteer......first guess would be the Elliot? You see the only reference I can find to Elliot or Elliothead in Scotland is
Elliot Water - Forfarshire, flows 8 mi to sea at Elliot Junction.
and then
Elliot Junction - 1 1/2 mi SW Arbroath and 15 1/2 mi NE Dundee, Forfarshire.
but then
a check on the 1881 Census gives two citizens stating places of birth as Elliothead, Perth.
Dwelling: 18 James St
Census Place: Perth West Church, Perth, Scotland
Source: FHL Film 0203512 GRO Ref Volume 387 EnumDist 16 Page 17
Marr Age Sex Birthplace
William BROWN M 59 M Anstruther, Fife, Scotland
Rel: Head
Occ: Goods Weigher N. B. Ry.
Mary BROWN M 57 F Mount, Fife, Scotland
Rel: Wife
Alexander W. BROWN U 23 M Elliothead, Perth, Scotland
Rel: Son
Occ: Drapers Assistant
John W. BROWN U 18 M Elliothead, Perth, Scotland
Rel: Son
Occ: Account Collector
and a google on Elliothead Perth gives a farm....on the River Earn I presume
Elliothead Farm, Bridge Of Earn, Perth, Perthshire PH2 9AH
so now you get to choose since you might know which general area the drowning took place in......
Best wishes
Jean

Re: Elliothead farm.....
Elliothead Farm was in Perthshire, on the river Earn, between Bridge of Earn and Abernethy to the east. Just a short distance S. of the city of Perth. My ancestor John McKillop (b. 1790) worked there, and his children John Ross McKillop (b. 1816) and Margaret (b. 1821), my 2 g grandmother, were born there.

Hello Valentine, and welcome to TalkingScot.
This looks like Elliothead farm, from across the river. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=56 ... .7,,1,-0.9
All the best,
