West Buchanan Street, Paisley.....

Post by AnnieMack » Sun Feb 19, 2006 12:41 am

I have found that one of my ancestors was born at West Buchanan Street, Paisley. Try as I might I just cannot find this street. I can find East Buchanan Street on an old and a current map.

Is there a register of street names anywhere or a list detailing name changes as I've found a couple in other locations where the name has been changed.

Hope someone can help!

Hi again Annie, yes positive West Buchannan St was demolished late 50s for regeneration in early 60s. George Court high flat now towers over Canal St/George maisonettes which replaced old houses. I'd love to get my hands on a picture of my old building.Ah well :( maybe one of these days :!:
Cheers Nancy.

Thank you all for your help! I found it on a map once pointed in the right direction, I was too far east obviously. I lived in Maxwellton Street from 1969 until 1972 and it had obviously changed by then.

Oh isn't it great adding another dimension to your family. They moved from Alva to Paisley and it seems the move is mill related but sadly only three years later the father is dead.

Back to trawling and thanks again!
