Hi All,

For those who would like to display a poppy by their name on TalkingScot for this weekend, a poppy avatar is available for you to use by selecting it in your profile.
  • User Control Panel --> Profile --> Edit Avatar
Select it by the button below the poppy, then click on the Submit button.
If you wish to donate to the PoppyScotland appeal, it can be found at http://www.poppyscotland.org.uk/ with a donate online button there for you - effectively buying your poppy online. There may be other such organisations elsewhere online if you wish to donate to them instead.

All the best,

AndrewP

Andrew,

I just sold 100 poppies to the members of the Scottish Society here in the desert.

Thanks for including the link to PoppyScotland.

I've never found any poppies for sale this past week here, so it's good to be able to support the cause.

My daughter is now wearing her last year's one.

Remembrance Sunday is on its way. If you wish to 'wear' a poppy as an avatar on Talkingscot, please follow the directions given above. Directions for making donations to PoppyScotland are also given above. There are probably other similar organisations also to be found on the web if you prefer.

All the best,

AndrewP

The Canadian government has opened two sites for Remembering Veterans and their stories.

www.facebook.com/CanadaRemembers
www.youtube.com/veteransaffairsca

This leads to a picture of poppy cupcakes my daughter made, sold at work and raised $94.00 for the Canadian Legion

Just been into my local branch of Boots to buy my third Poppy of the year-they never stick do they? Imagine my horror to find that some [rant] had walked off with the donation box.
After a stint at the front counter of my local Police Station I am :( by the actions of some scumbags who call themselves human beings.
If criminals saw the effects their actions make on people I wonder if it would make any difference to them?
I am appalled at the callousness & calculation that exsist in the pysche of some humans. [rant]
Phew that feels better.

Our local shop had theirs stolen as well

A couple of kids, reckoned to be no more than about 10 or 11, grabbed it and ran! It's thought they were the same ones who stole the "penny for the guy" collection from kids last week

Given the situation in oor wee town such that Ah'm feart tae gae oot on the streets when it's dark, is it any wonder that I now refuse to leave the house after sunset ?..........
