Canada 1830-40

Post by David Standley » Mon Sep 26, 2011 11:18 am

Hello. This is a post from a new member. I am trying to find a source of passenger lists between UK [Scotland] and Canada [Quebec] between 1830 and 1840.

Archibald Wallace was my wife's 3x gg grandfather. Born in 1790 in Kilconquhar, Fife, son of John Wallace and Euphan Jervice, he became a writer in St Andrews. He married Ann Lauder in 1820 and had three children, Elizabeth Baird [1823],John [1825 and my wife's 2 x gg gradfather] and Euphemia Jervis [1827].

I have found reference to bankruptcy proceedings against him in Fife in 1830 and to the death of an Archibald Wallace, writer from St andrews,in Quebec in 1832.
Is this our Archibald?
If so how did he get to Quebec?
Did his family travel with him? In the 1841 census his widow and two daughters were living in South Street, St Andrews.
If they did travel with him when did they come backto St Andrews?

Any suggestions as to where to look next would be most welcome.

Hi David, and a Warm Welcome to TalkingScot [scotland-flag]

There are many aids for searching passengers, including those listed on our site under Immigration and Emmigration at viewtopic.php?f=39&t=3510

I did a search on both these sites, but didn't see him listed:
