Any idea where I can find information on the people that worked at Denny's Shipbuilding in Dumbarton.

My Father, and his Uncle worked there.

Maybe the timeframe is obvious....but I'm in the dark here k ....about when would the Denny Shipyard have been in business???? Turn of the century???....More recent???? Your input would be most helpful

My great Grandfather, Finlay McNaughtan, was a storeman in Denny's before the first World War.
He is pictured in the store, on the left of the group

I just received a reply to my begging email for information about Dennys.
Here's an extract which you might find instructive....

Thank you for your enquiry regarding James McColl and his son John Robert McColl. Employeee records for shipyards, particularly for such an early date, are very rare. However, you appear to have noted that we hold a Wage Book dated 1844-1847 (our ref: UGD3/12/1) for the William Denny shipyard at Dumbarton. This is quite an exceptional item and I have had a random search through this as the time that we can expend on each enquiry is very limited.

I have found a John McColl employed as a carpenter in 1846 (and also a
Walter McColl employed as a joiner about the same time). Unfortunately the date is really too early for this to be the individual that you are looking
for. The problem is that these records do not give any personal
information but are purely a record of their wages and dates of employment.

We also hold a Joiners and Boilermakers Wages notebook (our ref: UCS3/25/1) for Alexander Stephen's shipyard c1865. Once again I could look through this but I doubt if any positive information could be found. To do a full search we would probably have to charge a fee to cover about one hour's work although you would be very welcome to come here and see the documents for
