Lossie Fishermen

Post by Tracey » Mon Sep 12, 2005 12:11 pm

Can you tell me if there are any fishermans records kept in Lossie ? I may have finally found a lead to my gt grandfather thanks to a very kind patient man ! He may have been discharged in Lossie 1935.I will go to the The National Archives but thought id ask here too.
I have posted a message on the Lossiefowk site but it doesnt seem to get looked at that much.

Many thanks

Have a scan thru the index at National Archives of Scotland - http://www.dswebhosting.info/nas/ - the index is not yet complete as far as I know, but worth a dig......... as far as I'm aware there are some good records on individual fishing boat registrations for various fishing ports, as well as some at least records of applications for herring fishing licences. I believe that the latter can be valuable genealogically as there is info on a sponsor, including the relationship.

I'm not sure if there will be specific records for Lossiemouth or whether it will come under Inverness or Banff/Macduff.
