Hi Alan
Well, looks like the story of George Pringle ends in Fremantle. Poor chap. I wonder if "delirium tremens" means that while being held on the hulk prison in England he was able to get hold of drink to drown his undoubted sorrows, but on the other hand perhaps fever symptoms could be so described.
He got his "Ticket of Leave" the day after the ship arrived in Fremantle. Did that mean that he was free to travel in Western Australia and would not have been held in an actual penal colony or perhaps it means that he was in such a poor state of health that he would not be able to work if incarcerated?
I am just delighted to have all those links - once again talking scot proves to me that there are a whale of a lot of generous people out there
I have received your PM, handily highlighted. Great!
Thanks also to Stewart for your willingness to do a search for me.
I am glad to have this insight into George's life. It has had a sobering effect on all the family, as you might imagine.
Kind regards
Lorna

Hi Alan
Thanks, I thought I had one more post for the 1000
I have put those links in my favs for future reference, they were ones I probably had seen before, although maybe it was the overall convict records I had on my previous computer, which I must get again one day.

Sorry, I missed your reply Christine. Just catching up today. I have copied the up to date pic. The "Then" column is being shy and not showing, but I shall try it again.
Of the 4 children who went into the lodging house only 2 came out and I already had them tracked. However older sister Agnes who had gone to work in the Eagle Tavern in Denny was obliging as her descendants stuck to two family names and then married men called "Brimer" and "Ralls". Those were new to me! The Borestone Bar in Stirling appears to have belonged (or been managed) to them for a while
I think I shall give that branch a whirl on GR and see if I get any bites.
Thanks again
Lorna

Hi Lorna,
There's still a bar called the Borestone in Stirling, don't know if it's the same one though (passed it yesterday in the car).
Regards..............Christine

Hi Christine
Yes indeed, the Borestone Bar is alive and well. Visited it, sampled the wares and one of the regulars even effected introductions to my husband's 3rd cousin who lived closeby. We meet up again in a day or two armed with his family tree - everybody happy
Hoping he won't mind the convict connection
By the way Alan, George took the watch to Edinburgh supposedly on a visit to his clockmaker father, went on a bender, pawned the watch for 12/- and when hassled by the owner for its return, he gave him the pawn ticket!! He had "previous" and Sherrif in Stirling decided that the offence had been committed in Edinburgh, gave him over to the High Court there and they threw the book at him. If he had been tried in Stirling he would have fared much better it seems. All of this from the NAS. His clocks are worth £4,000 - £6,000 now apparently. Poor old George.
Regards

Thanks for the update on the story Lorna.
George certainly got the rough end of the stick considering how it all turned out. But he's probably up or down there now basking in all the attention he's getting while the Watch Owner, the Judge, the Turnkey and Others are looking enviously on.
All the best,
Alan
