He said he was facing an uphill struggle against Catholic Church officials who hold records of the names of the orphans who died between 1864 until Smyllum closed in the 1980s

Not sure how accurate that report is, but there may be somethign comes to light eventually as to where the records are, if any.

Hi,

I was having another read at Lesley's last link. http://news.scotsman.com/topstories/For ... 2461432.jp It says 'It may be that if they were not originally from the Lanark parish their records may be elsewhere. '

I know Roberto Belli maried at the Lauriston Street Roman Catholic Church Edinburgh. When I contacted them they were able to give me some information about the family. Just wondered Yvonne if you have tried the Catholic churches in the area your family lived!
