Thanks for that & yes it is very possible that Thomas came from Ireland.
In fact on an OPR for either Andrew's Birth/Marriage his Father is down as being born Ireland. He was a Merchant Seaman in fact family lore has it that there is a Spanish sailor in the line (Tomas Torrenzo as I was teasing my Mum!) The Torrances were olive skinned with dark hair & brown eyed in the main but they may have been "Black Irish"
The spanish sailor must have had a bike as my Dad's side of the family is reputed to have had one too-knowing my lot it will turn out to be the same one with the bike!

Joette
Thanks for asking your mum about Torrances.
As I can't find marriage on SP I'm now thinking maybe they met and married in Canada,I've used the old bank card that much I could've flown to Canada to search their records!!!!!
Thanks again

Thanks so much for that it has filled in a few gaps & nice to know how many of the children survived into Adulthood-I think all in fact.Different name for her Father as per her Death Certificate but James got a few things wrong there.More hunting in Muirkirk/Colmonnell

Torrance Connections?

Post by jacktorran » Sun Sep 03, 2006 5:50 pm

I'm a direct descedent of Thomas Torrance aka. Andrew Torrance b 1735 Larkhall d 1805. Had sons: Thomas, John, Benjamin, James and William. THey all came to Canada in early 1800's. William married a Isabella Gibb and had her brother working for him.
Are there any connections?
The barothers were qsuccessful merchants in CAnada. What would have caused them to leave?
Will share information
