The Dean, Edinburgh

Post by keewik » Sat Apr 04, 2009 5:54 pm

I've found an ancestor's death in 1829 in Edinburgh, and the place is listed as 'The Dean'. He was listed as 68 years old (actually 66, I've discovered) but he's not listed as 'spouse of' - no info apart from the fact he was a quarrier. I've wondered if this was some sort of poorhouse. I can't find it listed, but I see an orphanage was built around there a couple of years later. Has anybody heard of this place?

So you reckon it just means he was living in the Dean area?
