John Glancy City Poorhouse Glasgow

Post by ninatoo » Wed Jul 01, 2009 2:57 am

Hi all,

I am wondering of someone can look up this individual next time they are at the Mitchell please?

John OR Michael Glancy (Glancey, Clancy etc) born in Ireland about 1820 was married to Rose Ann Brady and died in the poorhouse on May 8, 1886. He had been noted as both John and Michael on various documents.

I would be curious to see what the records had to say about him.

Thanks for reading!

Nina

I'll be there in about three weeks if you can hang on that long.
I also have Clancy/Glancy from Donegal(I think!).So would be interested in that name for myself.

Thanks Joette,

I don't mind waiting. My Glancy/Clancy family were from Leitrim< I think. Lucky you to be able to travel to the Mitchell!

Hi Nina
I was there today and luckily I had seen your post before I left home. I have some details as your John did apply for Poor Relief, but it is late here now and I'm just back home now and there is a bit to type up, so will get around to it tomorrow.

Best wishes
Lesley

Wow that was quick! Thanks Lesley! I am quite gobsmacked to hear that you looked for him on the very day I made a query! I look forward to reading the entry.

Joette - that would be my ideal holiday too! Except for visiting the old homes (if they still stand) I would be inside in a library or repository or archival place instead of seeing the sites. My Mum was trying to get me to go to Scotland a few months ago (I have to wait a few years yet until the kids are grown) but I said to her that she would never see me. She thought I was joking!
