Glasgow has a fantastic collection of these in the city archives.
However, does anyone know if Edinburgh has the same sort of inormation and if so where in Edinburgh they are located or can be viewed?
thanks

Hey,
This is an excellent site for checking up about poor houses in Scotland, it will also give you links to where the records may be stored:
http://www.workhouses.org.uk/index.html ... land.shtml
Edinburgh City Archives appears to hold them for the city:
http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/internet/Co ... archives_2
If your interested in Inveresk, unfortunately the records were destroyed or are lost. Which is a real shame.
I am not sure what NAS would hold, a quick search in their catalogue may reveal information, I have a feeling though that they have the minutes from the poorhouses only.
Regards,
Andy

Hi Andy
Many thanks. I contacted Edinburgh Archives this morning. The chap there was very helpful but it seems the information is not as good as Glasgow's. Still might be worth a call in.
regards

Re: Edinburgh and Scottish Poorhouse/Poorlaw applications
Very sadly, some years ago, it was decided to incinerate the Edinburgh Poor Relief records that were the equivalent of the Glasgow records.
After all, they were taking up archive space that could be better used
Such is life !
