Asylum Death.....
Hello All,
Would someone be able to advise me as to where I could find out about Agnes Venters who died in the Fife kinross Asylum 1916 of melancholia 4yrs and a burning accident of 1 day. She was aged 60yrs.
Many Thanks
Margaret.

followed by:Visitors to the Open Day will also be able to see a selection of 19th century patient records for Stratheden Hospital at Springfield.
The hospital, originally known as Fife and Kinross District Asylum, opened in 1866. The case registers and other records provide a fascinating account of the patients' lives.
Anyone who can't make it to the Open Day can visit the archive centre, by appointment, from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Hi Jeans girl
The link to the picture will only work if you are logged in as a member. Maybe that was the problem? I checked it out and it works fine when I am logged in, but does not work if I've not yet logged in.
Best wishes

Hi Margaret,
Don't know where you are living so it may be cheaper to e-mail the Fife archivist at andrew.dowsey@fife.gov.uk
I saw my ggggrandfather's records from 1868 but Andrew will be able to tell you if they have the records from 1916.
You'll either need to visit yourself or get someone to go there for you as they don't have a transcription service.
Hope you find what you're lookin for.
All the best,
Alison

My mother told me that when she was wee, 'grown-ups' would threaten to send naughty children to Springfield if they were bad. This would have been during the 1950's, although I suspect the practice may have been going on for years!

Asylum Death
Hello All,
I now have a reply from Andrew Dowsey re the kinross asylum death.
Interesting as he tells me that Agnes Venters father Hung himself and a sister of her fathers was also in an asylum.
The Father bit is interesting as her birth cert says illigitimate??? but on closer look at Marriage cert a father is listed and mother as married .
On Agnes death cert her mother is listed as being married to presumed father but dec.Father is listed as William Wemyss ???
There is a note to see reg of corrected entries . Where and how do we get info from them.??
I can get get access to the full medical files if i get permission from Christine Logue, Acting Medical records Manager, Fife NHS Primary Care Trust, Whytemans Brae Hospital, Whytemans Brae Kirkcaldy.
Thank You All
Margaret.
