Hi Tracey
I noticed on one site that Elgin Asylum opened in 1835. If you go to
http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map/ea ... cfm?id=796
you'll find a very detailed map of Elgin (1835-1840). I haven't taken the time to look for the Asylum, but feel it may be well worth your time to do so.
All the best.

Hi Catriona
I meant to post a reply to my original question (to see if anyone could verify) as my family in Scotland were up at Moray Heritage a few weeks ago and a man (visitor) in there said that it stood on what is now Dr Grays Hospital and knew where in there they would find photos of it, which they copied.
Many thanks for the map will have to be patient trying to find it on there though as it isnt marked out

According to the description given at the following webpage, the Elgin Lunatic Asylum was beside Dr Grays Hospital at the west end of the town.

A look at the west end of the map given by Catriona's link above shows the hospital and the asylum there.
All the best,

Fankenstiens monster
Found this on a site about Dr Grays hospital
.................... A site for the hospital - "a field immediately West of the Town of Elgin" - was purchased and the foundation stone was laid on 11 July 1815..................... opened to patients on 1 January 1819.
So as one of my gt grandfathers was born at Elgin Asylum in 1886, your right, they couldnt be on the same sight but next door ish to each other.
Glad that ones sorted
Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Frankenstein's monster was me making preparations for the "TalkingScot Halloweeen Pairty". Watch out for announcements elewhere on the forum. Halloween avatars will be available for a few days. You've spotted my one during a test out of the function.Tracey wrote:Fankenstiens monster![]()
Test over for now - avatars switched off again.
