There will be an Adoptions Register entry, but this is closed to everyone other than the adoptee and their parents.ang wrote:The lady was born in Sept 1949 and adopted 3 months later.
Unfortunately we don't know where about. But any help would be appriciated.
Do you know the birth name of the lady concerned ?

Hi Ang
I do know that the Church of Scotland were involved in adoptions. This is from their web site, so might be worth contacting.
http://www.churchofscotland.org.uk/faqs.htm#adoption
Q. I was adopted through a Church of Scotland home: where can I find information about that?
A. All our records are retained and maintained by the Scottish Adoption Society Ltd, 2 Commercial Street, Edinburgh EH6 6JA (Tel: 0131-553 5060).
Best wishes
Lesley

If she is alive then she is entitled to have a copy of her original birth register entry, and to view the Sheriff Court papers at NAS associated with her adoption, which may well answer the question in terms of any institution involved.ang wrote:Hi David,

David ,do you know if her daughter can request this by producing copies of her documents to prove who she is?

Up until recently at least, unless her mother is alive, no.
My reason for the caveat is that a recent Act of Parliament might have relaxed the access situation a bit, - I'm not sure, - best to phone the Adoption Unit at NRH, - see http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/contacts/index.html
