Forfar poorhouse.....

Post by Dennis » Sat Apr 15, 2006 8:11 pm

Hi:)

Is there an 1871 census for poorhouses in Forfar? I have an Andrew Smart who died in one in 1874, the governor was Charles something.

Dennis,
Have you had a look at the link in the Sources section here on TS?

Hello Dennis,

It might be worth emailing Friends of Dundee City Archives. He seems to have two applications.

I've mailed them about one of mine in the past and they very kindly sent me details.

Hi Annette :)

I've figured that the Governor of the particular poorhouse was a Charles Wilson LENNIE, and it was the Forfar Poorhouse in Forfar. Also I have, as you suggested, emailed Friends of Dundee City Archives.

When you say he seems to have two (2) applications, how can I locate that information?

Hi Dennis,

I found the application numbers on the poorhouse database via the link above. Perhaps he's not the Andrew Smart you're looking for. This one was born around 1843.

Hello Dennis,

I'll keep my fingers crossed that she has something.

I realised too late that the Dundee archives only hold Liff and Dundee applications.

Good luck,
Annette M
