Inveraray Jail.....

Just been on the site for Inverary Jail. I found it very interesting as you can look up former prisoners and see details of their crime and punishments. The punishments were not very consistent e.g. 6 months for culpable homicide and 18 months for assault. Quite disappointed I didn't find anyone I had on my tree.

What a brilliant site! Like you, I was disappointed not to find any of my family, but some of the info is fascinating nonetheless - 14 days imprisonment for stealing a hen!

Hi Everyone

For what it's worth - I took my kids on a visit there last summer - the jail is superb and well worth a visit - a well spent day out - and pretty great stuff from a genealogist's perspective. Particularily the courtroom where trials are re-enacted

Thanks for your review I've passed by a couple of times and wondered if it was worthwhile. Now kids are grown I find I am not going into so many places but I will give that a try now.

Love that site .
I didn't find any family either.
I typed in a name at random and the poor chap was sent to jail 30 days .
Crime. Begging in the street.
Occupation STREET SINGER !!!!!!!

Nowadays don't we call them BUSKERS!!!!

I guess he sang for his supper.30 of them anyway!
