John Lindsay Grant DOB 22-09-1906 was in Quarrier's Orphanage for 13 yrs, left to join the Navy. cwgc.org tells me there was a John L Grant serving with HMS Drake, a land based Training establishment DOD 21-04-1941. But I don't know if this is the right person as the head stone and book in the office at Plymouth Weston Mill Cemetery where he is buried does not give any further information.
Can anyone help please?

Hi Bertiebuggle:
Have you looked at the death registers on ScotlandsPeople?
There is a death for John Grant born 1906 +/-2, aged 33 -35, who died in 1941.
Someone with knowledge about armed services records will probably be along to expand on those types of sources.

However I believe I may be on the right track as there were dozens of people in the Navy - HMS Drake a shore based training establishment, that were killed on that day when the buildings they were in was bombed. I've sent for a death certificate in the hope that I'm right.
Kind Regards Gordon
