Hello Maureen,
Not sure what time it is where you are but - I'm at the Mitchell Library at the moment and can't find an application for Agnes.
I have found one for a James Kerr born in Stevenson in 1819 but his parents are James,a labourer and Ann Reid. Does this mean anything to you?
I'll take notes anyway.
Regards,
Annette M

Hello Annette,
It is 11.25 AM Wednesday here.
Yes that's them as that was her Parents and her Brother but why would he need help.
On 1861 Census where I found Agnes living with him and family he is down as Blacksmith employing 2 men and 1 Boy .
On the Statutory Death record for Agnes's Death the header on the page is
1.1.1864 yet she is stated as dying on February 2? 1864
former Residence 6 Buchanan Court ?
and definately states that she died in the GOVAN POORHOUSE
Many thanks .

Although she died in the poorhouse and an application would have been made, not all of the books survived. My gggg grandmother died in Govan Poorhouse in 1857 but the book is not at The Mitchell.
Agnes Kerr's brother's application was explained by his wife to the inspector.
"he had got half witted lately and if he applied again to take no notice of him"
If you want I will post the whole application tomorrow.
Kind regards,
Annette M

Hello Annette
I like it!!!
"he had got half witted lately and if he applied again to take no notice of him"
I had to
If you are willing I would like to see what other daft statement he made on the application.
I will have to take it as read that it was the correct Agnes based on all those facts .
Only wish I knew why she was there.
Maybe the problem ran in the family.
Many thanks again.
Cheers,
