Broxburn Hospital
Does anyone know the name of a hospital in Broxburn. I couldn't make out the name in a 1962 death certificate.

Ah, I didn't scroll down to read all of your reply. I viewed the certificate at Register House just over a week ago, I can't remember if it was a short name like Bangour or a longer name like Drumshoreland. I'll maybe look at the certificate again on SP web site in the near future. Thanks Jean for your suggestions much appreciated.

Hi JimR
Jean is almost certainly right about Bangour Hospital if it was a medical or surgical condition.
It was the local General Hospital back then. They had a specialised Burns Unit too.

Hi Russell
She(Jane that is) died from Cerebral Arterioclerosis and Bronchopnuemonia, I'm not sure about the spelling. What I find odd though is that her usual residence was Tennant Street, Leith, a fair distance even in 1962, I would have thought the RIE would possibly have been more appropriate but what do I know.

Hi Jim
The Western General would have been even closer even she had been at home but if she was taken ill while out somewhere she would be taken to the nearest hospital.
I lived for a short time in Muirhouse, which is quite close to Leith, and a neighbour had to travel out to Bangour for burns caused by hot oil (He was a chef in an Edinburgh restaurant)
It would have been a long trip by bus but he had a car, I had a licence so that made it feasible.
This was the very early 1970's. I think that the western was being rebuilt in the 60's but haven't checked dates but that would explain if there was a bed shortage temporarily.
