My great grandfather, Edward Good, died in the Barnhill Poorhouse in Glasgow in 1907. How would I go about finding information on his place of burial and/or disposition of the body? I believe the Barnhill Poorhouse subsequently became Foresthall Hospital and was demolished in the 1980s.
At the time of his death his wife and most of his children were in England and the witness to the death was the assistant governor of the Poorhouse.
Edward Good was quite a well-known monumental sculptor who obviously fell on hard times. He was born in Ireland, married in England and had three children born in Ireland, five born in England and one born in Scotland.

I'm sorry I can't help you with your query about Edward's burial.
What I can do though is check the poorhouse index for an application and transcribe it for you if it exists. It may, or may not, give burial details.
It could be a couple of weeks before I'm able to look it up though.
Kind regards,
Annette M

Thanks Annette. That would be great whenever you have time.
I have a biography of Edward Good from www.glasgowsculpture.com which says, in part..."Good then disappeared from the Post Office Directories until 1896, when he is listed again for the last time, at 96 Napiershall Street..."
The next record I have is his death at Barnhill Poorhouse in 1907.

Raeberry Street
Later...............
For anyone else watching this post - the street name where Edward's wife lived was Raeberry Street (one of the alternatives I had written down).
Thank goodness for that, it was annoying me.

Sorry I'm getting carried away with this one it is so detailed.
Alexander Henry (and presumably Lilly) was still living at the same address in 1914.

Annette:
Many thanks for this. It contains some great information for me and some others I am in touch with who are also researching this family.
Edward Good was born in Cork; I am not sure what the "Band of..." means.
His father's first wife was Rosina Smith.
I don't know who Harriet Ridgway's mother was. Her marriage and death certificates don't give any indication.
Edward's third child, shown on the application as Gerry, was actually George Edward Good.
I have Edward's wife and children in both the 1891 and 1901 Glasgow censuses. He is not in the household in either census. In the 1891 census they were living at 10 Kelvin Drive and in the 1901 census, as you say, at 11 Raeberry St. (although I wasn't sure from the census image if it was Raeberry or Raebury).
Thank you again very much. Did you get this information at the Mitchell?
