Hi Cathy
I'm not near Glasgow City Archives, but having looked at various similar sounding records at NAS, I know how large a task this kind of undertaking can turn out to be. Given the date range of the records you mention, 1626-1986, some indication of the date range in which you might expect to find Herbert Law may make the task into a possible, rather than impossible one. Even with a date range, this kind of search can turn out to be very time consuming - wading through minutes of weekly meetings.

I would suspect given the very large date range that it is more likely to be a collection of items rather than one book.

Do you know that Herbert belonged to this Incorporation?

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley,
still not being informed of replies.
I presumed it was just a book, and would have an index of names somewhere.
I don't know if Herbert was a member, but several certs. have him as
Gardener (Master). He was in Glasgow c.1902-1908 when he moved to Balloch area. He had his own nursery there for a time, but then WW1 came along, and I think he went out of business.

Hi Cathy,

The "Notify me if a reply is posted" option was not ticked on the first post of this message. Normally that is ticked automatically if that option is selected in your profile at the time of your writing of that message.

I have now added that tick on your first message above, so you should have received notification of this reply.

All the best,

AndrewP

You may well be correct, and they may have been very organised and obliging and put in an index of names, but in my experience of rummaging around in Incorporation records in NAS, life is rarely so simple!! Its just one of those things that you won't really find out until you order the item out - archives are a bit of a "lucky dip" sometimes! At least the date range narrows it down a bit, which might help. Lists of names of incorporations are often/sometimes given at the times of year when subscriptions were due, though the books I've spent time with are 1830-50ish, so earlier than the period you are interested in. Things may be different by the 20th century.

Hi Cathy
I've been thinking further about this one and the fact that no break-down of content is given, just the ref number (GB243/T-TH13) I suspect that the reference number stated is at fonds level and could well represent a large collection of items; various books, papers, letters, accounts etc. all belonging to the Incorporation, which may well be either in bundles or even in boxes.

Best wishes

Thanks Lesley. One of those "clutching at straws" situations.

Andrew. Nope. Not informed.

Hi Cathy
I'm sure I've mentioned this before, so forgive me if I have... but is there any chance the notifications could be arriving BUT being filtered by your mail program and so ending up in a junk or bulk mail folder? Might be worth checking if we have not already covered this ground... sorry, I just can't remember if it was you that I mentioned it to before!!

Best wishes
Lesley
