Irish frustration

Hi there,
I have been trying to trace some family back to Ireland and i have registered with Emeraldancestors - they were quite good for one part of my family but i am having no luck with the others.
I would be eternally grateful if someone who is going to the Mitchell Library in the near future could do a look up for me on:
James and Ann Flannigan 34 Rose St Govan Lanark Glasgow (this is the census result for 1881) at that time. He was 56 she was 50 one son at home Thomas 22. I am trying to find out where in Ireland they came from, assuming they lived there when they landed,maybe they asked for poor relief in the previous 15 - 20 years. Sorry i am not sure how it would work.
Also
Martin and Bridget Devine 10 Moncrieffe St Gorbals Glasgow (1871 census, again birth only Ireland) they had Bridget,Martin,Ann,Catherine and John.
The connection is that Thomas Flannigan married the young Bridget Devine who were my gt grandparents.
Also
While you are there (not being cheeky but rather than ask you again) I have asked about my husband's gran Sarah Young who we think came to Glasgow fairly young on her own. She was born in 1906 and was married to John Purcell when she was 17 her address on marriage cert is 111 Finnieston Street Glasgow.
Of course if none of the above is possible that is fine. I have nothing to lose in asking and i know you are all very helpful if it can be done.

I think any of us who have found any Irish connecitons can sympathise with the difficulties of Irish research, and those "Ireland" entires on the census returns. If no one is heading to the Mitchell in the near future, you could always contact them yourself, as I reckon you have enough info there to be able to identify the families.

I'm not sure if they offer a service of that kind, but they do certainly send out photocopies of documents for a small fee. It would do no harm to contact them and ask:

No luck I'm afraid for anybody.

There was an application for a John Purcell made when he was 11 in 1913. His mother's name was Ann Roger. Any connection?

I can look again for the Flannigans but I will need Ann's maiden name - there are loads of Flannigans from Ireland, none with the birth years you've given but some close enough to give a try when I've got more time.

Sorry for not replying sooner - i have been on holiday. I understand about the Flannigans - there being so many of them! No worries . Anne's maiden name was Cairnan.
My husband was impressed about the John Purcell find! It was his grandad and we have the gt grandmother as Ann Rodgers - different spelling but definitely her. (His father was also John Purcell)
He joined the first war aged 14 -that makes sense now as he probably was destitute. Any info on the application would be amazing.

Nothing on the Flannigans I'm afraid but here is John's.

John Purcell applied 13th June 1913 from 125 Kidston Street, 3 up left c/o Kerr.
Age 11 born 26/6/1902, 137 Naburn St
RC

Parents-
John Purcell whereabouts unknown.
Age 39, labourer.
Ann Rodger in Merryflats poorhouse since 1/5/13.

In good health.

Uncle Mr Kerr at above address applies for John's admission to Poorhouse.
In 13/6/13, left 7/10/13.

Initial decision - Poorhouse, mother there.

1925 March 11th - Wife SGH (Southern General Hospital) in 19.2.25, child Margaret born 21.2.25 both out 9.3.25.

His wife was on and off the roll till 21st January 1928.

I forgot to look and see if I could find one for his mother. I'll try to remember to look next time.
