Thanks again Moonwatcher for another great story.Brings back memories of tenement life,bringing up my kids in early 60s in Paisley.Only diff was old lady upstair complained about kids crying,both ours and ones upstair from her.We all thought at that time she hated young ones,but looking back she may have had problems we didn't know about.Some young ones nowadays dont know how lucky they are. Looking forward to next installment. Cheers

The Tenement
Part 4
1953
Glasgow. Millburn Street, Royston.
Lily brushed her hair and sat on the chair, tiny baby James on her lap, sucking his fingers. Robert jnr stood beside them, dressed in short trousers, pullover and sandals, clutching a toy car and staring at the camera with a serious look of distrust. The photographer held up the flashlight, chose his moment and pressed the button. The flat was suddenly filled with a brief, dazzling light and the image was seared on to the photographic plate at the back of the camera.
A moment in time.
Do you still have the photo?

Hi Annette,
Yes I do. Dave has recently published 'The Tenement' on his Tachras site and included a copy of the photo. You can catch it at;

Bob.
That bookshelf is fairly filling up with some great volumes old and new.
Keep it up! ( the writing that is - hopefully the bookshelf is sturdy enough to stay up itself

Kind regards,

Fantastic & brought back memories of sleeping in Granny's "bed in the wall" in Burns St. before she married Grandpa so I must have been under four.
My brother & family now live around the corner from it but a World away in condition with their Central heating,showers & fitted kitchen.They do have the big rooms & the high ceilings & it is the same flat that was the second buy of my elder sister.Handy for school too-they could almost throw Stephen out the Window.
