Greetings all.
In 1842 the first Paisley Emigration Society members reached New Zealand. This un-credited poem, was published in one of the few newspapers, on the go, at that time. I wonder what they made of it, and memories from home and winter, whilst enjoying the longest days of sunshine hours. Christmas in New Zealand.

Seasons greetings to you all. Thanks for caring, thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work.
All the best wishes for 2012.

Re: 'Christmas Poem' in NZ 1842 newspaper.
A very Merry Christmas, Alan, to you and to yours.
Here it is in all its glory in “The Chaplet: A Poetic Offering, The Lyceum’s Bazaar”, published 1841. It’s credited to Robert Rose (The Bard of Colour). http://www.archive.org/stream/chapletpo ... 4/mode/2up
The poor fellow drank himself to death in 1849. What is known about his life is published here. http://www.g7uk.com/photo-video-blog/20 ... ster.shtml
All the best,
Alan

Greetings Mate.
Y've done it again. You leave me for dead with my search-abilities. Usually I find that the first line of a poem, in a simple Google search, will come up trumps first or second line. Did not for me this time, but you had success.
Interesting that the poem was being published in our newspapers so soon after.
