Cyber Séance. 24 Mar 2005

Okay Seancers, this Easter Weekend will find me in deepest, darkest Manchester visiting live rellies and with very limited access to the Net. So I’ve prepared a wee Easter Quiz for you, which I hope will keep you occupied over the Easter Weekend. No prizes, just the fun of participation. Ten Questions.

Are you sitting comfortably? Right, here’s your ‘starter for ten’; a General question. Who is this about?
‘A love of learning(other than genealogical lore) was far from general among them… [They] were, in any case, clannish and reckoned up their relationships with great care. They drew long and elaborate family trees with innumerable branches. In dealing with [them] it is important to remember who is related to whom, and in what degree… [They] delighted in such things, if they were accurate… that they already knew, set out fair and square with no contradictions.’

Next, Scottish landmarks;
Where in Scotland would you see the ‘Grey Man’?

Scottish occupations up next;
What was a ‘Leerie’ or Leery’?

A BDM question just to keep you on your toes;
What was ‘Marasmus’?

For those who’re maybe having a wee bit difficulty;
In what Scottish Loch may you expect to find ‘The Loch Ness Monster’?

Scottish history;
The Battle of Culloden involved –
a. Scots against French
b. Scots against Germans
c. Scots against English
d. Other

A wee sneaky one about the Scottish Legal System;
Which of the following does the Scottish ‘Procurator Fiscal’ NOT do?
a. Carry out civil marriages in Scotland.
b. Establish cause of death.
c. Present criminal cases for the Prosecution
d. Decide whether prosecution is in the public interest.

On Scottish traditions;
When would you expect to receive a ‘Christening Piece’?

On old money;
What would you have in your hand (in current money) if;
You handed over a ‘ten bob note’ for a purchase costing ‘hauf a croon’, spent a further ‘tanner’ oan a sweetie then loast a ‘shullin’ an four ‘thrupny bits’ through a hole in yer poackit?

And finally, Sport;
Who one the Scottish Cup in 1947?

Happy Easter everyone.

Bob.
