Boat Gord or Engineer

Can someone tell me if the above occupations could be related

I have found my ancestor was stated as an Engine Keeper/Worker on
death certificate but on a census he has listed Boat Gord

Boat Gord - is it quite clearly written? If you could post the relevant part of the Census someone might be able to make it out.

Not sure who your ancestor might be but searching just on boat gord ancestry tosses out this one in 1861 as a BOAT GORD LABOURER...

And since it kinda looks like the name isn't exactly right either I chose to search on SP with wildcards of H*T to truly find the right 50 year old chappie in Tradeston....

and if you truly viewed the original census you'd quickly see that a boat gord equals a BOAT YARD LABOURER.

If he's not your ancestor then perhaps ancestry calls all the boat yard folk boat gorders?

This is the Hunt ancestors I am tracing. I should have checked on the original census

What I am trying to work out is could is occupation be the same as an engine keeper as stated on his death certificate.

He was born in England and at some stage was in the army but have not been able to find him. On the birth of a child in 1856 Scotland - states his occupation as a chelsea pensioner?

He died in 1867 in Scotland and the dc states engine keeper?

I would say the 2 occupations are closely linked:
A boat engine keeper could also have worked in a boat yard, whether repairing the engines or running the boats owned by the yard.

The census address Portland street is just a couple of streets from the River Clyde and that was a hive of industry in those days so boats and boat yards would have abounded and engines of every variety in the various places all within walking distance.
