Hello John
Have you seen this article in The Banffshire Journal which includes a photo ?
http://www.banffshire-journal.co.uk/new ... _1932.html
What exactly are you hoping to find out ? If you can be more specific with your question it may make it easier for someone to help you.

Thank you Tracey ......i am very new to this. And to be quite honest i dont what i am looking for. That may sound strange.
But the things i have uncovered in my few short weeks delving and looking in to my family history have taken me back a bit.
Obviously i knew i had great grandparents...... but my grandparents died very young ......my mother died recently .......my father left us some 40 years ago.I have no relatives to glean information from i am trying to build a picture of my family and any little bit of information is helpful.
There was obviously a huge rift in my family from the mid 1800's ....... as i have recently found out that my great grandparents were still alive in the mid 1960's when i lived in Aberdeen but they were never mentioned and my father never returned for there funerals.
The Crichton who owned the drapers shop was my great grandfather he died in 1927...... his widow died in a nursing home in Aberdeen in 1975.
I am just looking for anything at all.
Many Thanks
John

Hello John,
Would this be your great grandfather in the 1901 census?
6, Back Path Hazeldean, Banff, Banffshire
Andrew Crichton, 28, Head, born Turiff, Aberdeenshire, Drapers Assistant
Catherine Crichton, 69, Mother, born Auchterless, Aberdeenshire, Formerly Farmer's Wife
Annie Cruickshank, 19, Boarder, born Ythan Wells, Aberdeenshire, Dressmaker
If so, it is easy to go backward in the censuses and find out more about the family.
All the best,
Sarah

Catherine Crichton, Wife, M. age 49 years, F. born Auchterless, Aberdeen,

Hi John,
To see the actual images of the census forms, you would need to download them from Scotland's People http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk This can be done for a fee.
Otherwise, you can see transcriptions of the Scottish censuses on Ancestry.co.uk -- also for a fee, I'm afraid. Unfortunately, they are not always accurately transcribed, but the search is much more flexible. I have an annual subscription, so had a look for your ancestor the draper and guessed which one he must be.
Since Deano has given you the 1881 transcription, here is the 1891 to bridge the two.
1891
26 Fife St, Banff, Banffshire
Jane Boyd, 55, Head, born Drumblade, Aberdeenshire
Mary J Boyd, 16, Daur, born Banff, Banffshire, Millliner
John L Milton, 26, Lodger, born Deskford, Banffshire, Elementary School Teacher
Andrew C. Crichton, 19, Lodger, born Turriff, Aberdeenshire, Draper
James Kindness, 15, Lodger, born Auchterless, Aberdeenshire, Telegraph Messenger
James Troup, 16, Lodger, born Alvah, Banffshire, Draper
In that year, his parents are still on the farm in Turriff.
1891
Woodton, Turriff, Aberdeenshire
George Crichton, 64, Head, born Auchterless, Aberdeenshire, Farmer
Catherine Crichton, 59, Wife, born Auchterless, Aberdeenshire
George Crichton, 20, Son, born Turriff, Aberdeenshire, Farmer's Son
Catherine J C Jessiman, 15, Niece, born Auchterless, Aberdeenshire, General Serv Dom
Jean Bowie, 57, Serv, born Huntly, Aberdeenshire, General Serv Dom
Francis Gall, 14, Serv, born Millbrek, Aberdeenshire, Farm Servant
On the Scotland's People site you can also purchase the images of birth, marriage and death certificates. For instance, it looks as though Andrew's father must have died between 1891 and 1901. His death certificate should give his parents' names, which would help you get back another generation.
All the best,
Sarah

Hello John, and Sarah,
Yes Sarah, George Crichton, died 1896, and the son George, seems to have died in 1897. aged 27 years, all in Turiff.
Thats likely the reason mother Catherine, has moved to Banff, by 1901. to live with son Andrew.
Catherine Kindness Crichton, died in Banff, 1920 aged aged 88 years.
Regards,
Jonn.
