Hi everyone
I ran onto this occupation on the 1881 census....Carameller (Glass)....and am at a loss to know what it means. Google doesn't seem to assist much....any suggestions? Doesn't help that young Andrew Sharp seems to have the market cornered in that he's the only Carameller in the whole census....hmmmmm.....

This is where it's a crying shame that the original household schedules were destroyed, so that this entry could be checked to see if the enumerator got it completely wrong.
I'm not saying that "carameller" isn't correct, but I'd have expected to come across some use of the term or something similar on sites such as http://www.nandadesigns.com/glass_bead_making.php or http://encyclopedia.lockergnome.com/s/b/Glass ................

Don't know if you got any further with this, but if not it might be an idea to log on the the World of Glass website ( www.worldofglass.com ). This is the museum of glass making in St Helens, Merseyside. It has the facility to ask the curator & this includes glassmaking techniques.
