Hi Bruce and Trish

Sorry for the delay getting back - I have been down in London since Friday, Open University study not Family History :(

Thanks Bruce I'll send a PM. It is certainly a monument to him - sounds like he wrote his own epitaph  At the moment there is no proof he is buried anywhere, except that monument.

That is great info from those papers Trish, thanks for gathering it.

Thanks Bruce that is great. It takes some deciphering but I recognise the names and dates mentioned. Odd they never mentioned his Singapore 'wife' name. Someone has done their homework for that MI booklet. :D

BTW never got any PM.

Hi Maggie
It might be worthwhile trying to gat hold of the book mentioned (Early cemeteries in Singapore) to see if his first wife is
mentioned in it.
btw did you find out where his second wife was burried.

Hi Bruce

That is a good idea about the Singapore MI booklet. Still no idea about Margaret Lob(b)an, it would help if I could find out if she was here for a visit, in which case she was probably taken back to Perth, or moved up here - though I have checked the valuation rolls with no sign. But that is probably just wishful thinking. She and children were in St Andrews in 1841, where her son was at school, and the daughters were in Edinburgh with a nephew of William Farquhar's in 1851, as per his will. She doesn't have one. It is something for me to chew on when I get stuck on other lines until I can get back to Edinburgh and the Kirk Session Minutes again...

Hello Maggie,

There’s a fair bit of information about the Singapore family of William Farquhar and their land transactions in “Journal of the Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society”. It’s only available in snippet view but can be easily squeezed for more. His first wife Nonya Clement appears to have survived him by quite a few years. http://books.google.com.au/books?id=7Wc ... CDAQ6AEwAA

But there doesn’t seem to be anything in the book about the burials of William and Margaret in Scotland.

Thanks Alan

I had heard from Nonya's descendants, one of them wrote a dissertation on her, that she had survived him and the Singapore family fortunes went downhill afterwords, even though he provided for them in his will too. Me, I'd just like to tie up the loose ends and find my 3x Aunts and Uncle Lobban. You'd think Margaret with her marriage would be well documented, but except for newspaper obits we wouldn't know when and where she died. Like I said it is something I go back to when I run out of other leads.
