Hi Ina,
I have no concept of the size of the cemetery and would appreciate a map. I have contacted the folks at the cemetery a couple of times and have an elderly cousin in Angus who knows where some of the “more recent ones” are located in Greenock. The family still goes there regularly to lay flowers for her parents and others.
Thanks,
Catherine
PS - map received - thanks

Hi Wanda
..and a warm welcome to talking scot
The only church I have found so far in Cathedral Street is "St Andrew's Free" - corner of Cathedral St and North Hanover St, which in 1895 was occupied by the New Victoria Cycle Manufacturing Co (Scotland) Ltd. A picture of it can be found at the Virtual Mitchell site:
http://www.mitchelllibrary.org/
- search by street, Catherdral Street - the image in on the second page of results.
Not sure if this is any help though? Maybe someone with better local knowledge might know more...
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Wanda,
On the online 1850s Ordnance Survey map at http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map/to ... entre.html select sheet VI.11.6 (east of the centre of the map) and zoom in on the top part of that map to find Cathedral Street. It shows a number of churches, from west to east as follows.
Independent Chapel
New Jerusalem Temple
St Andrew's Free Church
St Paul's Free Church
Your guess is as good as mine to try and select it from that lot, assuming that it is any of them at all. "Independent Chapel" looks like the best (guessed) candidate.
All the best,
AndrewP

I guess its the closest we will ever get to the 'Find A Grave' concept.
