Nellfield Cemetery

Hello Carol: I hope this email goes through and reaches you as I realize it was posted almost a year ago.

I have just found this forum - it's wonderful. My great grandmother is buried in Nellfield. Is the whole cemetery set up the way your pictures show - the wall with the plaques?

Thanks so much for any words you can send my way to describe the cemetery.

Hello Sandi

Nellfield is a very big cemetery with most of the graves marked by stones and laid out in the normal manner in rows. The stones are mostly in reasonably good condition. There are also, as Carol's picture shows, plaques along the walls with graves under them.

I think it is fair to say that the whole graveyard is very well kept and despite the fact that it is between two of Aberdeen's busiest streets, i.e. Holburn Street and Great Western Road, is a remarkably peaceful place.

Hi Anne: Thanks so much for your reply. It's nice to know the cemetery is well kept and somewhat a peaceful place of rest for our loved ones.

Do you have any idea how old the cemetery is or if their is a website for Nellfield Cemetery?

Thanks again and have a great day - it's a hard rainy day over here across the pond.

Hi Sandi,

I was away for the weekend and just found your post on TS. You need to check out this website if you haven't already:

Colin Milne is a terrific person to work with. He located my grandmother's family gravesite in Nellfield and emailed me pictures of the site as it look last year! Go to his site and follow the directions for contacting him. He also has more pictures of Nellfield and other cemeteries.
