Where to look?

Post by Kathykins » Mon Sep 17, 2007 9:11 am

I'm heading off to Bonnie Scotland in October to see if I can track down some gravestones for various relatives, and I was wondering if somebody in Scotland could give me an idea of how many graveyards there are in the following areas, and where would be best to look? I'm going to Coupar Angus, but I had relatives in Clunie, Caputh, Cargill, Burrelton and Blairgowrie, as well as some in places Angus, like Murroes, Monifieth and so on.

Where should I start?

Hi Kathy
Where should I start?
Geunki is often good for general info about an area.
www.genuki.org.uk
e.g.

Hi Kathy,

I know of two graveyards in Burrelton, the old one in the churchyard, and a newer one, down a back road between Burrelton and Woodside, I have been at a funeral there, I am not the best at giving directions, but the church is fairly easy to find, if not, ask at the local Post Office, its a friendly wee place. :)

Hi Kathy

There are two graveyards in Coupar Angus 1 on the Dundee road at the red church or the abbey as some call it, the other is signposted from the Blairgowrie road,

the graveyard in Caputh is on manse road I think it's called,

The graveyard in cargill is down by the river tay you have to go down by the side of a farm and you can get parked close to the gates.

I only know of 1 graveyard in Blairgowrie and that is on the main road in from Coupar Angus direction, thats not to say there isn't others in the old churchyards

yours aye

Hi Kathy,

Yes, I am quite near this area, I had a look at your photo of your Scott family, the photo was named Keithick, is that Keithick Farm, Coupar Angus? by any chance.

Hi Annie,

Yes that's the one. My great grandfather John Scott moved there after the death of his first wife, and his son William kept it on after John died in 1914. My granddad, Jack Scott Morrison was born there and worked there until 1935, when he moved to Manchester to join the police force. William had the farm at Keithick until 1959 when he died, and it passed out of the family.

We're booked to stay at a holiday cottage at little Keithick when we visit - a surprise for my Dad, who hasn't been there since William died.

Do you know it?

Thank you very much to Bruce as well - that's a great help. I didn't know there were two in Coupar Angus - that may help solve a mystery or two!

Hi Kathy,

Yes I know it well, a lovely place, nice and peaceful. I have just read a piece about a meteorite landing through the roof of Keithick lodge in Dec 1917, there is a photograph of a couple outside the house!!
It is on www.marmet-meteorites.com. maybe you have come across it.

Oh my goodness! I'd read about the meteorite before, but I'd never seen the picture. I wonder who it is? My great grandfather died in 1914, and the man looks too old for any of his sons. I might have to have a good look at that under a magnifying glass!

Thank you so much!
