Welcome to Talking Scot, Northern Monkey, I'm not the most experienced to assist with your enquiry, but I'd suggest you could look at local newspapers for a death notice (or even a story of what happened). That's how I found out where my grandparents were buried. I knew my grandfather had died in Renfrew, but my grandmother had died several years before at London Road, Glasgow. I had a sudden flash of inspiration and went to the Mitchell Library in Glasgow to look up the Glasgow Herald newspaper. The day after his death the funeral notice stated that the funeral would be at Sandymount Cemetery in Glasgow. After requesting a search at the Glasgow Cemeteries office I was given the lair number (this is free of charge if you know the cemetery and they don't have to do a search, otherwise you can pay for a cemetery search). They were able to give me a list of four children and four adults who are interred in the lair. My grandparents, an aunt and an uncle along with four children.
This week I went to see the lair but was disappointed to discover there is no headstone. I was surprised about this but someone on Talking Scot has told me that it could have been sandstone which wouldn't have survived. Have a look at the Forum for Cemeteries on this site and you'll find my recent query to the members.
You could also look up sites on the web for monumental inscriptions, which list the cemeteries in the area you are interested in and also some of the names on the headstones.
If you can download the certificate I'll see if I can read it for you.
Good luck with your search.
