Livingston Cemetery

Hey all, been a while since I last posted.

I was wondering if anyone would be in the vicinity of this graveyard at some point soon?

I recently (well about a year ago) got my Great Grandfather commemorated by the CWGC and I have not heard back if the grave has been errected. However on the War graves Photo website he is listed as being there.

So if anyone will be in the area that they could have a look for us. I think there is a seperate area for war graves in the cemetery.

Lol sorry it would help if I included a name. It was Robert Greenlees, Trimmer in the Royal Naval Reserve, died in 1917.

Thanks and regards,
Andy

Hi Andy,

I went out to Livingston this afternoon (as an escape from the house - I've been off work unwell for most of the last week). The churchyard around the old church in Livingston Village is small, so it didn't take long to walk around. I saw no sign of a stone commemorating Robert Greenlees. Should it be a standard CWGC type stone? If so, there are some of these around the churchyard, but none look brand new.

I now see from the CWGC website that the stone should be in the Churchyard Extension. I will need to find out where that is.

Name: GREENLEES, ROBERT THORBURN
Initials: R T
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Trimmer
Regiment/Service: Royal Naval Reserve
Unit Text: H.M.S. "Attentive III"
Age: 27
Date of Death: 22/04/1917
Service No: 5010TS
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Lair A554.
Cemetery: LIVINGSTON CHURCHYARD EXTENSION

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Andy and Andrew

I went out to Livingston Churchyard last year and got the site marked. I took photos and I'm sure I passed them on to you, Andy. I can send them to you again if you want. I've been off work(holiday) today and only just saw this post or I could have taken a wee run out again.

Hi Andy

I went out to Livingson Kirkyard today-fine day for a vist. There is no headstone erected yet. I've posted two pictures to the Gallery. One is taken at the gate and shows the War Memorial and an idea of the scale of the Kirkyard. The other is showing the actual site of the grave which West Lothian Council kindly marked for me last year. This shows that the grave is situated at the top of the small hill looking down with the gate and the War Memorial to the left at the bottom. There is no problem finding it using the photos.
It also occurred to me that perhaps it would be possible to have G-Grandfather's name added to the War Memorial?

Thanks Andrew and Mary. I was told that it may take a while for it to be erected but its been about a year now.

So I guess they are still getting round to it.

Im not sure how I would get him added to the War Memorial. I am very happy that I managed (with the help of others) to get him commemorated with a War Grave. :D
