Duncree or Dumcree Burial Ground

Post by Paulaan » Tue Sep 16, 2008 7:55 pm

Hi

I am trying to trace Duncree or Dumcree burial ground near or in the Parish of Kirkpatrick Juxta or Johnstone, Dumfriesshire.

I have a death certificate for a Elizabeth Proudfoot Ferguson died 1855 who was buried here. The death certificate indicates the Parish of KPJ.

Thanks for any help

Paula

Hi Paula,

Welcome to TalkingScot. [scotland-flag]

I see Dumcrieff in the southern end of Moffat Parish, a short distance from the parish boundary with Kirkpatrick Juxta parish. The maps I have looked at don't show a cemetery at Dumcrieff (not to say there is not one there somewhere).

Go to http://www.nls.uk/maps/os/2nd_ed_list.html
and select Sheet 16 - Moffat
Moffat is the large pink-coloured parish taking up a large part of the SW of this map. Kirkpatrick Juxta is the orange-coloured parish to the SW of Moffat. From googling, it looks like Kirkpatrick Juxta cemetery is in Beattock.

Or on a current map click here for current OS map
Or on another scale click here for current OS map - zoomed in

All the best,

AndrewP
