Hello All
Every couple of years or so for the last ten years we have tried our hand at family history with some success and a lot of frustration,(must be something to do with the moon) In the past we have had a lot of help from this site and as the bug has bit again we hope we can get more of the same. This time round we have a bit more time and hopefully a lot more patience! so for the first of our 1001 questions------I was told that "The Herald" had obituaries for the last two hundred years on line, is this true ? and if it is how do you get into them ?
regards to all shortfuse and her

Hi Shortfuse:
Is it the Glasgow Herald that you are wanting?
If you are looking for a death notice, they are only available online since 2007, anything further back, requires you contacting the newspaper directly
http://www.yourannouncement.co.uk/?type ... tus=search
This site has a general indexed archive available at a cost 1998-2008 for the Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times
http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/smgpubs/about.html
You might like to check the local public library for microfilm copies of past issues of the paper, which might be of help, provided you know the general date of death. They would also have a collection of books relative to the area you are searching, and may even have some indexes.
Further, some of the Family history groups listed under the Societies tab at the top of the page may have some publications that might suit your date.
Hope this helps,
Frances

You can currently access the Glasgow Herald 1820-1900 in a Temporary Trial of “19th Century British Library Newspapers” and many others via this link previously posted by Lesley here viewtopic.php?t=11449&start=45 and still going strong.

Tip: If you're searching for a Mc name, which may be in the newspapers as M', try also searching for just the rest of the name. The search may not see a superscript c or the ' and then ignore the isolated M. For example instead of searching for McPherson search for Pherson.
