Hi Ina,

How interesting! I would never have thought about who owned copyright for an obituary. That said, I would have imagined the originator of the wording, which I thought would be the person who placed the ad in the newspaper, would be the one to own copyright. You learn something every day.! :o

Interesting comments on the newspaper's site as well, with a few people saying that surely the person who wrote the obituary (presumably a family member) holds the copyright. However, the newspaper will hold copyright over the style and given that it seems that even punctuation has been copied, then this is a breach of copyright.
