Cambusnethan Cemetery Smith family lair 649 section C

Hi one & all,
I don't want to presume too much in the following, but I'm wondering if there may a kind person who may be visiting the Cambusnethan cemetery with a camera who may be prepared to take a photo of my Smith ancestor's grave stones at lair (plot) 649 section C. There are 4 internments I've been informed of: Agnes Smith 18 years, interred Nov 1890, Peter Smith aged 1 year 8 months, interred 27th Jan 1908, a 2nd little Peter Smith aged 1 year 11 months, interred 22nd Oct 1913, & Thomas Smith aged 76 years, labourer from Wishaw, interred 27th June 1914. The last is my primary interest, but if the others are close by would like as well. It's a bit to ask, & there would be snow fall at the time I realize now, but would appreciate if able.

Hi Asmiffy
This is not the best time of year for roaming around grave yards in Scotland as you have guessed - days are short and the weather is usually cold and frosty, cold and windy or er, cold and wet!

Maybe one to bear in mind for later in the year when the weather improves and the days grow longer, some member may be passing the way of Cambusnethan cemetery.

yes don't risk the conditions. I imagine it would be very cold, gusty & gloomy weather, so it can wait as I'm not desperate & the inscriptions aren't necessary, it's more a case of liking to see the gaves as I live in Australia. Lindsay

On the other hand the cold clear days make for excellent photographic conditions and the undergrowth has died away making the old cemeteries more accessable and the midgie population are in hibernation.......

I don't think I'll be passing that way in the near future but who knows.

Hi again,
The impression from what I was informed was that these few of the family were buried fairly close, so there may only be one memorial stone, but there again, there may only be marker pegs, I don't know exactly what the situation was, as Thomas Smith was only a labourer. Agnes was his daughter, & the two little Peter boys, were grandchildren. His wife died a year after him in 1915, her name was Agnes Smith nee Morrison, so whether she was buried there as well, logically you would think so! If anyone is going that way & the weather is clear, one good headstone pic would be appreciated, but most assurredly I don't want anyone risking life & limb trying to locate the spot in bad weather, which would make it virtually impossible anyway. Maybe in few month's time would be best, if someone is inclined. Thanks again.

Hi all,
just dropped a line to say that I've been informed that there is no memorial stone for Thomas Smith & wife Agnes, which is somewhat unfortunate, but thats the way it goes. There are other Smith relies there, which do have headstones, possibly his son William Smith a miner/pitponey handler who died in 1932, but I don't know where at present his grave is, so just will leave it for now. LS

It's always disappointing when you find out that there is no stone. But thank you for letting us know, just incase it was on someone's "to do" list.
