Campsie

I know many people use the Mitchell's Pre-1855 MI Books for trying to find their ancestors graves and in the West Stirlingshire book, something had always intrigued me - so today I went on a mission to try and figure out this mystery.

In the book they have Lennoxtown Churchyard and Campsie Churchyard, nothing wrong with that you might think . . . . . . ?

'Their' Lennoxtown Churchyard is actually Campsie Parish Churchyard (Map Ref: NS628780) and what they have listed as Campsie Old Churchyard is Clachan of Campsie Churchyard (Map ref: NS610796).

Doesn't really help if you end up looking in the wrong place!

Hi Anne

Certainly doesn't! Are these published books like the "Mitchell & Mitchell" ones or documents that the Mitchell Library have put together? Either way, I hope you let them know. There must be a few very puzzled people about if they have tried to find relevant MIs or visit the graveyards having found a reference in the books!

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley,

Yes, it's the Mitchell & Mitchell West Stirlingshire pre-1855 MI's book I was referring to.

I know they're published by the Scottish Genealogy Society but I don't know how keen they'd be to alter any content. I'm pretty sure the pages are copies of the original type-written documents done by the Mitchells, scaled down so that 2 pages fit on an A4 page and I doubt that there's ever been any need to update anything.

Maybe no-body has ever 'rocked their boat' before :?
