Maryculter and Kemnay MI's question

Post by speleobat2 » Sat Mar 28, 2009 4:25 pm

Does anyone know if the MI's are available for Maryculter New Church cemetery circa 1856 or the Kemnay Churchyard cemetery circa 1908?

I have a couple of families I'd like to ckeck and I'm not seeing anything online. Wouldn't the first time that I missed something though!

I take it you'll have looked at ABERDEEN & NORTH-EAST SCOTLAND FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY http://www.anesfhs.org.uk/ ?
They do have an online searchable MI section:
http://www.abdnet.co.uk/mi-index/

I couldn't see either of the graveyards you mention - but then a lot of them bear names unrelated to the town they are closest to and my Aberdeenshire geography isn't that good.

They did mention that not all are there though:
As well as the published MI Booklets, ANESFHS holds a number of unpublished MIs..
...ALL the unpublished MIs can be consulted in the ANESFHS Library, and members living further afield may request a lookup, by means of a written query, or online
So that could be worth an email.

Hi Wilma,

Yes, that was the first place that I went! I have a bunch of their booklets already, but it looks like these two graveyards have yet to be transcribed.

Ah well,

I thought you would have but it took me a wee whilie to locate the index so wondered if you'd missed it too.

Maybe somebody is at thos moment parading around there taking notes!

Hi Carol

I found this site:
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/nescotland/g ... rmcult.htm
You may be able to get photos of the graves you are looking for at Maryculter.

If you don't get any further with your searches I would be happy to go and have a look and take some photos. Both graveyards are only about 20 miles from me.

Good luck

Hi Carolyn,

Thanks for reminding me about Colin Milne's website. I have gotten pictures from him before, but it has been over a year and I had forgotten to check his site!

I may take you up on your offer for the Kemnay cemetery though. Last week, I connected with the granddaughter of my father's cousin whom the family had lost contact with back in the late 1950's and now I suddenly have dozens of Frazer and Taylor relatives to research! Three of the death certificates that I've found so far actually give the place of burial and one of them is the Kemnay Churchyard.

I'll look up the details and pm them to you later today. It would be wonderful to have pictures, but there is no hurry on this. I also don't know how large the Kemnay cemetery is so I don't have a clue how difficult it would be to find a grave there.

Thanks so much for you interest!
