Burial place for Robert Young 1841

Post by GREATSCOTT » Fri Apr 03, 2009 2:55 pm

I am looking for any burial record for Robert Young in 1841. He was about
40 . He was from Paisley Scotland. He died on the road, near the Shellford Toll (??) while traveling back from Kilmarus while looking for work. I have no idea where he might be buried,.... in Paisley or the town near where he passed away? Wife was Jean/Jane (Patrick) Young, married about 1828.

Did he die before or after the 1841 census?

Check for him or his widow to see where exactly they were living at the time.

I would have thought he'd be taken to his home address for burial, if however he was unemployed at the time there might be little or no money to pay for a 'funeral' so could in fact been buried by the parish where the death occured.

You mention Shellford Toll, I think that is more likely to be Shilford Toll, at Shilford Hamlet, which is South West of Barrhead on the road to Ayrshire and almost directly Kilmaurs. It's only about 6 miles from Paisley, so he was almost home.

Hi Bruce
Have you had a look at the OPR deaths on Scotlands People just to see if anything likely turns up in the index? There is a chance that if his burial was noted, you might find him there.

Where did you find the info about his death that you already have?

Best wishes
