Anyone lives at Edinburgh to take photos of headstones?

Post by stevendeg » Sun Aug 23, 2009 12:18 pm

I just found out that my two of 6x great grandparents and one of 7x great grandfather were buried in Grayfrairs Burial Ground and they have headstones.

I am unable to take photos of the headstones as I am in Australia. Could anyone please take photos of the headstones for me?

James Vallance has Henderson tomb aged 75 years old in 1780. It was 3 Dp E.

Peter Ramage has Henderson tomb in 1786. It was 4 Dp E. His wife Rachael Valenie (should be Vallance) has Farguharson headstone in 1798. It was 3 Dp E.

Thanks.

If there are no other takers for this one, at some time in the next month, I will be in the Edinburgh Room of the Edinburgh Central Library. There I can consult the Greyfriars MI book(s) and see where to look in the cemetery for this headstone. Otherwise it could take hours of searching up and down the rows of headstones to find it. The cemetery is only a few minutes walk from the library.

All the best,

AndrewP

Andrew, thanks for that. Don't worry about it. I was told that there are no gravestones of theirs.

Someone told me that Peter Ramage was interred on 26 August 1786 for the sum of 4 pence in a grave east of the Henderson family headstone.

I thought Henderson was a business name to build headstones.

Cheers, Steven.
