Does anyone know if monuemental inscriptions for Kildrummy are available anywhere?
I'm in a quandry here. I've been researching the Cadenhead branch of my father's family. My 3x great grandfather George Cadenhead appears to be a member of the Cadenheads of Upper Cantley (Contley, Cantlaw). He married Mary Niven somewhere around 1795 and they had four children all in Peterculter. I haven't been able to establish the direct connection, but on one of the birth OPR's he is listed as a subtenant of Upper Contley. So I moved on to Mary Niven and this is where things get complex.
Family Search as extensive submissions showing Mary Niven to be the daughter of John Niven and Rachel Lumsden who was the daughter of William Lumsden Esq. and sister and co-heiress of Sir Harry Niven Lumsden. I found lots of details on Google Books in A Genealogical and Heraldic Dictionary of the Landed Gentry of Great Britain, however, nothing tells me if this Mary Niven married my George Cadenhead. There is also a book called The Family of Cadenhead written in 1887 and based on family reports that gives lots of detail on the Cadenheads, but never mentions the possiblity of George marrying a relative of gentry. From a purely human perspective, I can't imagine anyone missing that opportunity unless there was a major dispute between the Cadenheads and the Niven Lumsdens and I haven't found any sign of that.
Which brings me back to the Kildrummy MIs. I'm trying to find them to see if by chance George Cadenhead and Mary Niven Cadenhead are buried there. The Peterculter MIs have extensive listings for many of the Upper Cantley Cadenheads, but no Mary and George.
Any suggestions will be welcome!
