While looking for something else (isn't that ever the way?) I came across this link:
http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/internet/At ... on_Old.pdf
It's from the Edinburgh 2007 'survey of gardens and designed landscapes', and gives a description of the burial ground, including a summarised history, with descriptions of the key monuments and many photographs and some maps and plans.

Hi again Jenny
Thanks for posting this link so that other TS users can find it and, hopefully, find it useful if they have family from Edinburgh.
Cheers!

Re: Old Calton burial ground - history and description
Thanks from me too Jenny
I had found it previously then lost it when my PC died (maybe in sympathy with the Calton ground
).
One of our members will be delighted to see it and may well glean some information from it.
