North Berwick death/burial?

Post by Moray_Lass » Wed Dec 16, 2009 12:07 pm

This is an aside to
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=14554

Does anyone have access to death/burial/MI records of North Berwick?
Grace Anderson Loban died, probably in the birth of her daughter Grace Loban Lawton (10 Dec 1840 North Berwick), 1841 census her 2 yr old son is with her mother Isabella Laing and '6 month old' Grace Jnr is with a wetnurse in Fochabers. I'd like to tie down her date of death just to be a completest

I hope someone can help.

Hi Maggie

Have you had a look at the OPR deaths on Scotlands People? I'm not seeing anything obvious, but it is always worth a play around with the search just incase anything likely shows up. Not familiar with the OPRs for that area, so not sure how well kept or how detailed they may be.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley

Yes unfortunately I have, Lawton and Loban both have various spelling but I brought them down to L*t?n and Lob*n and not finding anything in Scotland even individually. Which is why I am hoping someone might have another source.

And I wonder about the nightmare of indexing the OPR too; I spent a couple of hours yesterday in the Moray Heritage Centre and think I found my 5xG Grandmother's death on the microfiche - she was Mary Thomson (nee Gordon) and there was a Mary Gordon Thomson about the right age. There was no Mary Gordon Thomson births. With hindsight she is in SP as Mary Thomson dying that year, but I have a Mary Thomson in nearly every generation and I didn't know when she died. So lateral thinking might be need in searches in some parishes, where they put maiden names in and indexers are reading them as middle names. :x
